The Bulls and the Bears is a documentary film about a game - a zero-sum game called Futures Trading which requires nerves of steel and a lot of money to play.

The traders in the film speculate on the movement of interest ratest on a minute by minute basis. They can win big, because they are only required to place a small amount of their bet on the table, as it were. But when they loose, they loose the lot.

The events in the film took place over a ten month period in 1998 - the year after Asia’s financial meltdown - and the final days of the trading floor at the Sydney Futures Exchange.

The trading floor SFE

This was the yearJohn"Rambo"Moulton lost a fortune in a week - when the hedge funds moved in and pushed the Aussie dollar to an all-time low. And it’s the year he caps off his comeback by buying a golf course in Queensland’s lush tropical north.

It’s also the year Richard Mahoney questions what it’s all about, and Van Oada takes computer-trading by the horns as he and the others prepair for the final days on the trading floor.
